Project Description: The scientific objective of the project is to determine the exposure of companion animals (dogs and cats) to Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) such as dioxins (PCDD/PCDF) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which may be present in pet food. The subject of analysis in each sample will be 7 toxic congeners of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (2,3,7,8-PCDD), 10 congeners of polychlorinated dibenzofurans (2,3,7,8-PCDF), 12 dioxin-like PCB congeners (dl-PCB), and 6 non-dioxin-like PCBs (PCB 28, 52, 101, 138, 153, 180). The research will employ gas chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry (GC-HRMS).
