Postgraduate education in Puławy has existed practically since the establishment of the Institute.

Initially, training for veterinarians was conducted sporadically in the premises of individual scientific departments. These training sessions mainly concerned: microbiology, parasitology, poultry and fish diseases, and food hygiene. According to collected data, between 1951 and 1961, 26 courses were conducted, attended by 543 veterinarians.

Organized forms of veterinary service training at the Institute began in 1962 after the establishment of a position for organizing and coordinating training. Veterinarian Kazimierz Rzeszowski was appointed to this position and was responsible for organizing training until 1971. At that time, the Institute’s departments and laboratories independently conducted classes for course participants. Between 1962 and 1971, a total of 97 courses were held, attended by groups of 15 to 45 veterinarians, with course duration ranging from 6 to 36 days.

The lack of accommodation facilities and adequate technical infrastructure did not allow for the development of training activities that would meet the growing needs of the veterinary service. Consequently, a decision was made to build a proper Training Center. The Central Training and Professional Development Center for Veterinary Service of the Veterinary Institute in Puławy commenced its training activities on September 7, 1971. Veterinarian Zbigniew Służewski became the Center’s director, while Dr. Antoni Teklinski became the head of the Personnel Development Department.

In 1974, as a result of organizational changes, the Center changed its name to the Central Veterinary Personnel Training Center. Associate Professor Antoni Tekliński was appointed as the Center’s director. Between 1980 and 1987, Stefan Drozdowski, PhD served as the Center’s director, followed by Stanisław Tereszczuk, PhD until 1992. Professor Stanisław Tereszczuk. Between 1992 and 1998, the position of Center director was held by Associate Professor Tadeusz Wijaszka, DVM, PdH, who expanded the Center’s scope of activities to include conducting specialization training.

In 1994, the Central Veterinary Personnel Training Center was renamed the Veterinary Postgraduate Education Center.

In subsequent years, VCPT was directed by Dr. Jerzy Krasucki (1998-2002), Dr. Adam Dzierżawski (2002-2006), Dr. Katarzyna Szymanek (2006-2023), and currently by Joanna Stachyra-Wolska, M.Sc.
