Winter school "Chemical Risk Assesment"

The NVRI and BfR (German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment) organized the winter school:  "Chemical Risk Assessment" (5-9 March). The 19 participants took part in the trainings lead by NVRI and the BfR experts. On the first day, the participants learned the general principles of risk assessment and listened to presentations on selected threats to chemical food safety (antibiotics, dioxins, mycotoxins and endocrine disruptors).

In the following days, Dr. Lars Niemman, Dr. Ulrike Pabel and Dr. Jürgen Thier-Kundke from BfR presented risk assessment on the example of pesticides and toxic metals as well as issues related to risk communication. Each day of the winter school included both lectures and group excercises, during which the participants were tasked with risk assessment of various chemical compounds.

The winter school was a good opportunity to broaden knowledge about risk assessment, exchange of experience and discussion on a range of issues related to consumer safety.
